Day 3 – Venice

Day 3 – Venice

Yesterday I mentioned that Luke was catching up on Zzzz’s as a wrote the email. Well, not long after, I also went to bed only to awake at 10pm having missed dinner. Whoops! We ordered some room service and went back to sleep – sounds very boring – but hard on the body with all the travel.

Woke up this morning and still adjusting to our travel movements. We were awake at 4:30am this morning, so we watched Wimbledon to try to get us back to sleep. We had breakfast delivered to the room. We ate on the veranda and had our bottle of champagne that had arrived the day before. It was beautiful, looking over Venice as we had our breakfast. We then took a tour of the ship – it has 12 storey’s and so many different places to be entertained, I have lost track already! Tonight is our formal night – we get all dressed up, have photos taken, and have dinner with a toast from the captain. I am really looking forward to it and meeting some more people.

We departed Venice today at 2pm and we had an escort out of the Port with the tugs. Venice is so beautiful. We didn’t get to do the gondola ride I had hoped for, but I am sure we will get back here one day to have a better look. There are lots of churches – they are so gorgeous!

Tomorrow we arrive in Dubrovnik. We are booked on a tour of the town and local countryside. It will be good to be ‘back to normal’ and have a good look around.

We are having a great time and everyone is excited when we say we got married on Saturday! Lots of goodwill!!

Day 2 -Travel and arrival in Venice

We left Singapore at 11pm Tuesday 23 June (which is 1am Wednesday for you guys). I am totally out of whack now so never mind. I will call this part of the journey day 2. The flight to London was delayed because the door to the plane would not shut. We were delayed one hour which doesn’t sound like a lot, but add that to a 12 hour flight and it adds up. It was a very long night, and we arrived at London around 6am this morning. We then had a short wait before flying off to Venice to get to our boat.

We got in to Venice at around 11am. We were taxied off to the boat from the airport – that is where you find me now. We have unpacked, had a couple of drinks on the deck and now looking forward to some horizontal sleep for a change.  The cabin looks fantastic. We have a massive balcony off the room and as I am writing this, Luke is already asleep catching up on lost Zzzzz’s. Our feet have blown up like balloons (just hoping it is only the long travel), and hoping some sleep will help our bodies recover.

Venice looks beautiful from what we have seen and we should be seeing some more tomorrow. Lots of English spoken everywhere, so we don’t feel awkward from a language perspective. There is a large mix of people on the ship, but a lot of Americans and Canadians at this point. Hopefully we will meet some Aussie’s too.

Day 1 – Singapore

Day 1 – Singapore

Arrived in Singapore late on Monday night after delays leaving Brisbane. Got to the room finally at 11pm local time (1am your time) – so we were pretty tired and headed straight for bed.

One of the photos is a shot from our room. They upgraded us to the Executive Floor which has excellent views looking west towards the airport. After breakfast this morning, we had a ride up the Singapore River on a junk boat – well they call them junk boats but they are actually really nice. We returned back to Clarke Quay and set out to have a look around. We drove past the Raffles Hotel on the way in, so we went back there to have another look. Unbelievable! We took some photos, but they did no justice so we have not included them. However, we strolled through the Raffles Shop and I bought some souvenirs.

We then headed over to Suntec Towers and the Fountain of Wealth. We both made a wish and touched the water – here comes $50 million in Oz Lotto tonight!! Hope it comes true!! We headed back down past the city to what they call Boat Quay and had lunch. In traditional Asian style, most restaurants had hawkers out the front trying to hustle you in. We ended up at a seafood restaurant (the Forum Seafood restaurant) where the crab was $18 per 100 grams!!! Needless to say, we settled on Sweet & Sour Pork and rice. Very nice!

We then took a stroll down some alleyways and one of the photos attached shows the air-conditioning in this place – and we care about climate change??? Please!

We have headed back to the hotel now, and we leave tonight at 11pm on a flight to Venice via London. Can’t wait to get there and relax a little bit more!!!
